Third miner confirmed dead following tremor at Mysłowice-Wesoła mine

The devastating tremor at the Mysłowice-Wesoła mine has claimed the life of a third miner, according to officials.

The miner, the last of those missing following the incident, was pronounced dead early Wednesday morning.

"The miner in question was found; the doctor pronounced him dead at 7:20 am. The family has already been notified," Aleksandra Wysocka-Siembiga, spokesperson for the Polish Mining Group which operates the mine, stated.

The tremor occurred early Tuesday morning around 3:30 a.m. at a depth of 870 meters, generating a force equivalent to a 2.66 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale.

The tremor affected a section of the mine where 15 miners were present; 11 managed to escape on their own.

By Tuesday, three miners had been found, two of whom did not survive. The search concluded with the confirmation of the third fatality on Wednesday.
